Create Lists to Get Traffic

Posted by admin in Blogging Tips, Inter... | 09.30.2006 - 10:18 am

Most of the top bloggers agree that lists do well to attract visitors toward your post.

Dave Winer writes that the fundamental law of the Internet seems to be the more you send visitor away from your site, the more they come back. (Source)

According to problogger online readers are notoriously lazy and lists do well because instead of wandering through different websites, they get everything in one place. Also lists are often backlinked from other blogs and forums.

Read this problogger articles titled “8 reasons Why lists are good for getting traffic to your blog”. Read the comments section of the post and you will see that most of the people agree with that.

From a long time, the famous quickonlinetips blog is making good use of the lists-for-traffic idea and has constantly updated lists on many topics like Adsense tools, Flickr tools, Google tools, etc. All Quickonline lists are promoted to Digg front page and linked back from many popular blogs including lifehacker.

Recently lorelle published Lists of Firefox Must-Have Extensions List.

What are search engines like google, yahoo, msn ? they are sort of lists.

So create lists to get traffic :-)
Also, the most famous post on freakitude is Orkut Hacks. Which is a list.
Comments awaited. 8)

Thanks - nice write-up. Although you could have titled it something like, “5 Tips on Why You Should Create Lists to Get Traffic” ;P

thanks for tip. By the way, the permalink for the orkut article is wrong. not good for n00b.. ;)

    thanks. link fixed.

Very true, ore u offer them more they come back. But how to make them click add if they leave site?

Very interesting post. I’ve never really thought of it that way — specially the sending visitors away. I’ve always been fearful of sending my visitors away from my site thinking that they might like other sites better than mine and never come back. I’m going to try this new idea and see what happens.
