iTunes Copy Protection Cracked

Jon Lech Johansen, a 22-year-old Norwegian who lives in San Francisco, cracked Apple’s FairPlay copy-protection technology, Johansen, also known as DVD Jon, rose to fame at the age of 15 when he wrote and distributed a program called DeCSS that cracked the encryption codes on DVDs.

Currently songs bought from other online stores do not work on iPods. His company, DoubleTwist now have plans to license the code to other digital music player manufacturers. This could help companies such as Microsoft, Nokia, Sony Ericsson and Samsung, which have plans to launch music download services combined with new devices to challenge Apple.
