Wikipedia hate Ads

Posted by admin in Adsense, Internet, M... | 10.30.2006 - 1:36 am

Silicon Alley Reporter Jason Calcanis begged Jimbo Wales, the founder and president of wikimedia foundation to put ads on wikipedia and monetise wikipedia content.

Jason suggested him to put a leaderboard on Wikipedia and told him he would get AOL to sell it and host Wikipedia for free. Jason explained to him in detail how that one leaderboard could make over $100M per year and told him that they should take the $100M and give it to charity. Jimbo stay fixed on his stance to keep Wikipedia free of Ads.

Majority of people are talking against Jason Calcanis but market analysts say its not a good thing to leave money on the table that could otherwise go to a good cause. It will in no way distract users to read or research by telling them that they might like this or that product, when its relevant to what they are reading.

What do you think ??

Pluck RSS Reader to Shutdown

Posted by admin in Adsense, Internet, M... | 10.28.2006 - 11:48 pm

pluckAll versions of Pluck’s RSS readers for Internet Explorer, FireFox and Pluck’s web edition will be discontinued on 1/5/2007.

You have until 1/5/2007 to export your data, after which our servers will be turned off and your data will be deleted. Note that the Pluck RSS readers are not supported for use on the new releases of IE (version 7) and FireFox (version 2)- Source

This news came as a surprise to many because Microsoft is integrating RSS into Outlook next year, Google probably will have Gmail integration soon, and Yahoo has MyYahoo and Yahoo Mail for feeds. Web marketing experts say that with the growing reach of Web 2.0, this is the last move they would make.

Wordpress 2.0.5 Released

Posted by admin in Adsense, Internet, M... | 10.28.2006 - 11:18 pm

Wordpress upgrade 2.0.5 has been released, latest release consists of about 50 bugfixes, minor feature enhancements, and some database speedups. Wordpress guys suggest everyone upgrade as this version includes security fixes.

Some users have reported server 500 error messages after upgrading to WordPress 2.0.5.

If you are also getting these kind of errors, try this fix suggested by Markjaquith:-

First, download this plugin, upload it to your wp-content/plugins/ directory and activate it by going to the “Plugins” menu and clicking “Activate” next to the “WordPress 2.0.5 Tuneup” listing.

If you get the error message after logging in and thus cannot click the “Plugins” tab, manually type {WPDIR}/wp-admin/plugins.php into your address bar. It’s a small minority of people that is affected, and the problem can be fixed with a plugin.
