Gmail Mail Fetcher

Google added a small feature to Gmail this week called Mail Fetcher. Gmail can now check for the mail you receive at your other email accounts. You can retrieve your mail (new and old) from up to five other email accounts and have them all in Gmail.

Then you can even create a customized ‘From:’ address, which lets you send messages from Gmail, but have them look like they were sent from another one of your email accounts.

You can only retrieve mail from accounts that have POP3 access enabled and this his feature is currently only enabled for a limited number of users.

To use the service:

  • Click Settings from the top of any Gmail page.
  • Click Accounts.
  • In the Get mail from other accounts section, click Add another mail account.

Gmail will now check your other account on a regular basis, and new mail will appear automatically in your Gmail account.

This still hasn’t been activated on my account :(
Guess Google is giving this a test before releasing to all.

yeah, its only enabled for a limited number of users.

I have also seen a post on digg saying that Gmail has been opened to public registrations,

The story was on the digg frontpage but most of the people who commented said its bogus and they are unable to find any direct signup link.

    This feature does not exist.

It only change the address on the outgoing mail

@Ralph - its only enabled for a limited number of users.

Instead of fetching, I use forwards in my other accounts. All my emails are forwarded to gmail account.

Regarding modifying from address, I think this feature is there since day one. I even send email from my blog id helloashok.com via gmail.

my bad, i was dissapointed looking for that feature last night and i couldnt find it
