Technorati Wordpress Effect

Posted by admin in Internet, Tech News,... | 12.22.2006 - 5:19 am

When you create your own WordPress templates and put link to your blog in the theme footer, the theme when used by anyone on their website, the link back is counted by technorati and helps your rank well on technorati.

Wordpress effect is when technorati figures out that people are not actually writing about a blog, but rather they have a link that is pre-embedded in their theme.

After that they may list a domain name as a “Wordpress effect” candidate.

Early this year theme designer Kaushal Sheth’s website was suspectedly marked as Wordpress effect candidate, when his website was showing just 3 links from 2 sites making his blog rank very bad.

My wordpress theme PlaintxtBlog Enhanced i think has been marked as wordpress effect candidate and backlinks coming from this theme are not being counted by technorati.

Quite natural what Technorati did, else we would see non worth link in the Top 100.

Can’t blame Technorati. I see this happening to me soon.

However, your rank remains the same from what I have seen. Only thing is that it doesn’t show up in the Top 100

[…] in advance. They might take this case manually and put the participating blogs in the black list. Wordpress Technorati Effect is a good example. Other then this they can not do much to fight against this […]

This could look like a good move by Technorati, but its affecting more people than you think. John Chow for example, has lots of backlinks (I mean more than 10K) but they cannot be seen on Technorati and therefore cannot make it to Top100
