Mig33 Ban in Bangladesh

Posted by admin in Cellphone, Internet,... | 01.21.2007 - 6:58 am

Mig33, the widely popular cellphone chatting application is to be banned in Bangladesh by the Grameen Phone cellphone company. The ban will come into effect after January 31, 2007.

To Cash in on the popularity of Mig33, The company has launched its own Grameen Phone Instant Messanger to Rival Mig33.

I have checked the new Grameen Phone IM service and i think these people are angry for genuine reason.

  • GP IM service is paid while Mig33 service is totally free.
  • Mig33 is the most stable MSN and Yahoo client for J2ME devices. Grameen Phone IM serivce does’nt offer yahoo and MSN connectivity.

  • Mig33 Java version is 62KB while Grameen Phone Messenger is 108KB so very slow and resource hungry as compared to Mig33.

Grameen Phone sucks. They extort money from their subscribers in every way possible. No wonder they tried to ban mig33 (though they didn’t in the end). Dr. Yunus is eradicating poverty with Grameen Bank and at the same time robbing with Grameen Phone! Talk about irony.

It’s good to hear that GrameenPhone have decided not to ban mig33 (If I was in Bangladesh, that would be enough for me to change companies, as it is, the only mobile company in the UK where running any IM service other than network’s own is 3)

“If you can’t beat them, ban them” is a bad strategy, glad to see Grameen Phone saw the light!
