You may be aware of torrent tracker Pirate Bay’s efforts to purchase the man-made island of Sealand for $200 million.
Pirate Bay planned to use the province of sealand to host its webservers. Later on Prince Michael of Sealand refused to sell the island to pirates.
The pirate bay’s efforts to buy sealand gave birth to the The FreeNation Foundation which is a non-profit project whose end goal is the acquisition or creation of land, ideally to become a sovereign, world-recognized country.
The foundation doesn’t currently have focus on a particular land mass and is intended on building a strong foundation and to turn the idea into a revolution by spreading the word. They have also launched the FNF forums which are open for debate and discussions.
The FNF FAQ states that the FNF foundation was born out of Pirate Bay’s efforts but is no longer affiliated with them.

Dear Lovedeep,
I am writing to you on behalf of the public relations team of the Free Nation Foundation. We appreciate you blogging on us, and helping spread the word.
However, this article contains an error. We are not currently associated in any way with The Pirate Bay, we do not have the $20,000+ that has been donated to them, and we are not their side project. We feel it is important to make that clear, as it seems to be a common misconception about our organization.
Thank you once again for writing about us,
Tuxedo
Public Relations Team Leader
