Wordpress guys has released Wordpress 2.1.1. The latest version includes 30 bug fixes, mostly minor things around encoding, XML-RPC, the object cache, and HTML code.

For those who have not yet upgraded to Wordpress 2.1, Wordpress version 2.0.9 has also been released which includes a security update.
Wordpress team is committed to provide security updates for 2.0 till 2010.

Yesterday Mybloglog guys made a post on their blog highlighting their future antispam policies and changes that they are going to introduce to patch existing exploits.

Only message from your own contacts will be shown by default. You will have to click a radio button to see messages from everyone else.

The text of the comment and associated controls (delete,reply, etc) will be included in the comment notification email.

Fix to limit users to send only five requests for co-authors a day.

Fix to limit users to join 15 communities and add 15 contacts during any day.
They will also deploy a comment approval system that will be introduced after these are five changes are successfully implemented.

A few days ago google released a study showing the rate of failure for harddisks. The study conduncted in google’s huge data centers yielded some very surprising facts related to the health and failure trends of hard drives.
Some interesting conclusions:
- Harddrive failure rates are definitely correlated to drive manufacturer, model, and age
- Higher temperatures do not mean more failures.
- If you’re hard drive didn’t fail in the first year, it’ll possibly survive for the next few years.
