Creating a Plastic orb
First create a new image
Go to File>New
Give these settings

Create a new layer.
Go to Layer>New>Layer
Keep the default settings and select ok.
In the new layer select the elliptical marquee tool
and draw a circle
Like in the image.

And fill the selection with this color.
(tip: press alt+backspace to fill with foreground color)

Keep the selection and again create a new layer.
select the new layer and
go to select>modify>contract
in the dialog box give enter 6 and press ok.
Fill the selection with this color

Deselect (ctrl+D).
Go to Layer>layer style>Blending options
and enter these settings.

Create a new layer.
Take the elliptical marquee tool and create a circle similar to the image below.

Fill the selection with white.
Deselect.
Go to Filter>blur>Gaussian Blur
and give these settings

Select the white layer and change its blending
mode to overlay.

Select the second layers transparency by ctrl+clicking the second layer.
go to select>inverse
Keep the selection and select the white layer and press delete.
Deselect.
Create a new layer and draw a circle using elliptical marquee tool
similar to this.

Take the Gradient tool. ![]()
Put white as foreground color.
Use these settings.

With the gradient tool drag from the top of the selection to about
1/3 of the selection and let go.
Your image should look like this.

Now go to the custom shape tool.
and select any shape.
put it in the center of the orb underneath the gradient layer.
And make its opacity to 30%.
The final image should look like this.
