By default Firefox Search Bar search result page is opened in the existing tab. Usually you need to open a new blank tab or goto an unused tab before using the Search Bar.

Here are some ways to open Search Bar search results page in a new tab.

Configuration Hack:

  • Open firefox hidden configuration page, type about:config in the address bar of your Firefox browser and then hit enter.
  • Now copy the text browser.search.openintab and paste it in the Filter box of the about:config page.
  • You should see only one entry in the Preference list. The entry with name browser.search.openintab. Now, just right click on that Preference Entry and select Toggle to change its value from false to true.
  • Now restart your Firefox browser and you are done.

Next time the search results page will open in new tab.

Extension:

If you are using TabMixPlus firefox extension.

Go Tools -> Tab Mix Options and choose Events from the top.

Now select the “Search bar” under the Open tabs From group. Save the options and you are done.

    Hi.
Actually, if you use “TabMixPlus”, you go Events>Tab Openning, and you check “Address Bar”(!) in “Open tabs from”. “Search Bar” doesn’t matter any more.
