Kontera Wordpress Plugin Contains Hidden Links

Posted by admin in Monetize, Security, ... | 06.09.2007 - 3:13 am

Kontera DynamiContext Plugin helps you to easily add Kontera ads to wordpress posts , but this plugin may be unknowingly stealing google juice from your websites.

This plugin adds some unwanted hidden links to blog footer that are invisible to website visitors but are visible to search engines.

The previous versions were adding a single hidden link to the plugin page with version info. But the author recently updated the plugin to adds 5 links in the footer contained within a hidden DIV tag pointing to author’s various websites.

You can keep using the plugin if you are comfortable with these unwanted links in your footer. Otherwise download this fixed version.

Hidden links can be a serious issue. Google hates them and might also penalize for adding hidden links.

Ya, its clearly stated in Google Quality guidelines to avoid hidden text or hidden links.

Hello, the plugin is no longer available at the site. Also, is it the latest version, 2.0 offered at the authors website? I couldn’t find any reference to the removal of hidden links in the list of fixes for the plugin at the authors site. Also. do you know if I can just cut and copy my plugin from a site that it’s currently working on, www.taxlienresearch.com to a new one, www.agrandioseblog.com? Thanks!

Try this link to download the plugin.

You can easily copy any plugin from your old website to new one.

Connect to your old website via FTP. Navigate to”wp-content/plugins” directory. Download all the plugin files/folders you want to copy to new website.

Connect to new website via FTP and upload the downloaded files to “wp-content/plugins” directory.

Then goto plugins tab in the wordpress admin panel to activate the uploaded plugins.

As Thilak said, we may have put this unknowingly but in the end we will be the ones bearing the brunt of google.. Does the author even state that the plugin adds such links?

I just wrote a different Kontera plugin. It not only simpifies inserting the javascript, it also lets you keep ads out of posts in a certain category, or new posts or/or comments — all depending on your preferences.

I wrote it Tuesday and released it Wednesday… so clearly, it’s very, very Beta. But, I think it will do more than the other plugin!

Its safe to use the fixed version, right ? I mean, I’m currently doing SEO work on my site. I don’t want this to get in my way.

Sreejith: The fixed version is completely safe, i am using it on this blog.

You can also use an alternative Kontera plugin by Big Bucks Blogger.com.
