Wordpress Plugin to Improve Alexa Ranking

Posted by admin in Blogging Tips, WordP... | 07.23.2007 - 11:07 pm

The Alexa traffic rank of a website is measured according to the number of users who’ve visited a website with the Alexa toolbar installed.

Ad networks use the alexa rank of your website to determine its popularity. The amount of money you can earn by selling text links or sponsored posts, depends heavily on the Alexa rank of your blog.

Alexa Redirect is a Wordpress Plugin aimed at increasing your Alexa ranking.

This plugin rewrites your internal links and adds http://redirect.alexa.com/redirect? automatically to all internal links. When your visitors click such a link their visit is counted by Alexa and your Alexa rank goes up.

Download the Alexa rank plugin from here.

I think it will be stupid to install such an extension. The reason is ad networks which rely on alexa will never approve your site if you try to game the alexa ranking and thus you’ll lose things instead of gaining.

Apart from that, why should you play with your own stats because you’ll know for youself that the stats there are not the real ones and that you are not worth that rank which you will see after installing such an extension.

Better than using alexa redirects on mybloglog, myspace and incoming links from other websites.

    ReviewSaurus,

Thanks for your thoughts, I’m the author of the plugin so I thought I would chime in. I wouldn’t consider, nor do I think an ad network, would consider this gaming.
Your not bringing in ‘fake’ traffic or anything, the redirect simply assures that your regular readers who don’t download the alexa toolbar, are counted toward your alexa statistics.
I’m not saying it’s a magic fix, but I certainly don’t think it’s cheating in any way.

    Hi,

I’m on Ariah’s side. It actually makes Alexa more accurate since it is toolbar-agnostic.

As the developer of a plugin that helps blogger sell ads directly to advertisers, I think that Alexa data is very important.

But what does Alexa think of this? If they change the url, will it break every URL? What do the search engines think of this? These are some questions that need answering.

Thanks for the plugin. I will try and see what happens to my alexa rank.

How about the crawlers. If a googe bot is seeing so much of redirect will it trust. Thats one issue If any body can answer would be great

Ashish has made a brilliant point there. Secondly this plugin may increase your Alexa ranking but it will ruin your blog search engine optimization.

And I certainly think that using redirects makes you sound desperate to get rankings by using underhand methods. This certainly wont go down well with users seeing such links everywhere

    Nice, im try then.
    Thanks

This plugin is no good, since it screws with your links, and in this way diminishing your Google ranking and search results. A better options is to make the Alexa redirecting JavaScript-powered: in this way the HTML will not be modified, and the redirects will still work. I’ve applied this technique to a new plugin called Better “Alexa Redirect” WordPress plugin. If you are interested about it, visit this URL to learn more about it:

when i started to increase my alexa rank i used the redirect from alexa to my website, and installed the alexa toolbar and would flick through the my pages a few times so alexa know that the pages are there and my alexa increased but that was about 3 months ago and i left it since then and it shot back up again
