Those that use Skype use it religiously and swear by it, and those that don’t, really don’t know what Skype even is. For those that have heard about it, but aren’t really sure what it’s about, it’s a means of communicating by telephone over the Internet using what they call Voice Internet Protocol. Consider it an Instant Messenger of sorts but using voice conversations instead of text conversations. You can use webcams with your Skype service thus enabling you to have video and voice chat as well. Skype is a beautiful thing, and its most appealing quality is the fact that it is free. Yep, just like your Yahoo or MSN Live chats, you won’t pay a dime as long as you have Internet service. For those that DO use it, accessories and devices are always on the market to target high end users with the latest Skype certified products that will improve and enhance your Internet calls. The latest? A Skype Certified Videophone, and it’s called the AiGuruSV1. Here you have your Internet calls go mobile, and you can make unlimited phone calls with a webcam, speaker, and a microphone all on a handy dandy 7 inch screen. Even if you have never used Skype before, this product will give you an easy to use icon based interface with an intuitive button layout that will ease you along the way of trying out this new technology. The Net Connection is accomplished through a 802.11 b/g wireless connection or to Ethernet via a router. The battery is rechargeable and will operate for about 20 minutes but can be plugged into additional technology such as your home charger or computer to juice it up if needs be. This is another one that’s not out quite yet, but look for it come October from ASUS and I am thinking this will be a fab Christmas present for the techie on your list.
