Ah yes. The New Apple MacBook Aims to Please Everyone

Gone are the days when Apple products are exclusively for only those that could afford their heft price tags. With the economy in the shape that it has been, and with competition from every major PC Brand getting stiffer by the day, Apple has had to come up with something that may lure the PC user away from the standard brands. The result is a new Apple MacBook like that is causing somewhat of a wow effect, and primarily this is due to the fact that the new line is being marketed to the average user, not those with the big bank accounts. And they aren’t just affordable.

The new line offers features that stand the test of Apple time. The line is powered by NVIDIA’s new GeForce 9400 M which brings you an integrated 3D graphics processor, and is powerful enough to feature 16 parallel processing cores while delivering 5 times the performance on your graphics as the previous MacBooks have done. The new line also features a new smooth glass trackpad with Multi Touch capabilities and a tracking area that is 40% larger than previous models. You can activate Expose or use gestures then to switch between applications all with the touch of your finger.

The line is being called the MacBook Proand the MacBook Air and will also come with next generation Mini Display Port that you can even hook up to Apple LED Cinema Display. The reason this is such a selling point is that you can deliver pure digital signals that drive up to a 30” widescreen display without missing a beat. Starting price points for these babies are around the $1200 mark, which is not too bad, when you consider the standard $1999 and up for most Mac products.

Video Chat for the Cell Phone?

Posted by Chrissie in Apple, Cellphone, Ha... | 10.15.2008 - 12:33 am

Here is another concept that is still yet a concept, but you know there was a day when the iPhone was just a concept as well, so expect to see this in the future, and near future I would suspect. This technology will bring video chats to your cell phone, making video chat capabilities go with you as you travel. A novel idea of course, and one that has been bound to transpire. The concept is in the test phase now with Global IP solutions which is providing a new video chat engine that will turn every smart phone into a video phone. You will be able to use peer-to-peer video and video conferencing through what is called the GIPS Video Engine Mobile Platform, a similar platform that Global IP uses for Voice chats with the iPhone.

The Video Engine will as they say ‘take advantage of network effects and hardware limitations’ and the key selling feature to that is that you won’t be dealing with data packet loss and your lip synchronization will be protected. What is needed to turn this from concept to usable technology is the fact that phone carriers will have to sign on to use the bandwidth and data heavy feature and users of the technology will need headsets to initiate the video calls, in a manner similar to the current Skype process. However, with hands free driving becoming a necessity these days, by the time this is launched users will already have this accessory on hand.

The unfortunate thing to this concept is that it is currently only restricted to certain phones, as the GIPS system functions through Windows Mobile Hardware and thus requires an Intel XScale PX310 Processor, and soooo….the elitist iPhone users will not be able to use this right away. The only phones that currently have this technology that will be able to use it are the HP IPaq line, Samsung SGH i780, and the GSmart. Of course however, we ALL now how technology moves. There once was a day, and not that long ago, when the iPhone was the only phone available with a touch screen, soo….probably just a matter of time before this technology moves to other interfaces.

The Elettronico Faucet To Improve Bathroom Functionality

efaucet_front.jpg

Here we have yet another gadget that is designed to improve on existing technology, the age old faucet. Yes, the faucet has been around for QUITE some time, and the Elettronico Faucet is making an old device much more contemporary. And it is doing so by jumping on the touch screen bandwagon so that you enjoy the handy dandy touch screen even in your own bathroom. The Elettronico Faucet is ingenious as far as I am concerned, and will best be appreciated by those with children who have the ever rising fear of children messing with the wrong faucet and scalding poor little hands, or even for those of you that enjoy a little Calgon time but don’t like to sit and babysit the tub as it fills.

With this gadget you will be able to control the temperature of your water through a waterproof touch screen device, and not only allow you to control your temperature, but the amount of water for your sink or tub so you can just set, and go, and come back to your Calgon delight. What makes this faucet so unique is that you will also be able to network it with with other Automatic Faucetsin your home, adding that extra insurance policy of safety for any little hands using tap water anywhere in your home.

If you want to do some dishes and run some bath water at the same time, you can do all of this with a computerized faucet at any faucet you are currently using. Again, we are looking at another product still in development and not released yet, but I am thinking this concept will catch on and quick and they should be out sooner than you might think.

Gmail Won’t Let You Get Caught Drinking and Emailing Again!

Ever heard the expression ‘Don’t Drink and Dial?’ Right. And we all know why that is such sage advice. These days, it’s Don’t Drink and Email. Oh yeah, we’ve all been there. We stumble home after margarita hour has turned into something much different than planned. Yeah so we were only stopping for one or two but hey, those nachos were salty as heck. We get home, decide to check out Gmail before we crash and there it is. The email from the ex, the boss, or even that certain someone who you haven’t really defined things with yet. And so away we go. Clickety clack, don’t go back. And send! We go to bed thinking we are the most brilliant writer on the planet, wake up thinking what have I done?

Google knows us very well, and thus has developed a feature to prevent us from emailing through our margarita goggles. It’s appropriately called Mail Goggles. It is a new test feature from the free Gmail service that will prevent you from emailing something you shouldn’t, or something you will regret later. You can use these Mail Goggles on those late weekend nights. How it works is that the feature will force you to solve a few easy math problems before you hit the EVER so big send button.

Internet At the Speed of LIGHT.

Posted by Chrissie in Apple, Cellphone, Ha... | 10.08.2008 - 12:02 am

It doesn’t matter who our service provider is, we always complain about the nature of our Internet Speed. And we always will, and then when it is TOO fast, we will complain that we can’t get anything done again. A team of researchers at Boston University is hoping to come up with a solution that will change that for good, by coming up with a concept that will provide Internet and wireless connectivity at the speed of light. Sort of. It will be done through lights in a manner of speaking. Computers and networks will be able to enjoy literally uninterrupted wireless connections through the use of Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) that are installed into lighting fixtures and WiFi access points.

The concept is that due to the fact that LED’s don’t use a lot of heat, and actually run very cool, that any remaining signals from the lights can be used for power and created as conduits for wireless access points. The researchers from Boston University, whose mascot coincidentally happens to be a huge light emitting geranium diode, are using an $18 million dollar grant from the US National Science Foundation to study how to combine LED bulbs with wireless access points.

The Ab Solo Makes Exercise Go Tech

Yes, yes, even our gym gadgets are going technical. But this gadget or device is not simply a gadget that will enhance your listening pleasure while you work out, but it will work to help you while away the hours a little quicker, and even make your crunch routine fun. The notion that exercise is tedious and hard work is one of the primary reasons that people don’t take the time to work out. Well, that and the fact that they don’t have the time. The AbSolo Abdominal Core Intensive Training Systemeliminates both of those factors by providing you with the very first multi-tasking fun machine, where you can do crunches, and shoot hoops at the same time.

Pretty simple yet stellar concept, because the gadget won’t let you shoot a hoop until you’ve performed a pull up with the crunch roller. Yes yes, this machine will enable you to have more fun shooting hoops than you would at your local arcade. You will start off performing the crunch on a rolling slide bar and perform what is called a pull-up. Once you get to the end of the bar, you will have the opportunity to show off your basketball prowess with the hoop at the end of the gadget. The machine also comes fully equipped with a counter, so you can see just how great you are. Or not. But we can’t help you there.
