Have you ever gone through one of those moments where you hear a song, and you haven’t heard it in a while, and you are dying to know who the artist is, and it’s on the tip of your tongue, but you just can’t quite get it? Yep, we’ve all been there. Even for those songs that we have on our own iPod, they’ve been sitting there for so long that we’ve forgotten all about them. The iDesign Song View
is designed just for this and will provide for you all of the information you need to know on your favourite songs so that you don’t get stuck again. It will scroll out song name, artist, album, and even the genre in sports display format so that you never have to run to your iPod docking station again to find out who is playing that song. The iDesign Song View features this nice scrolling view of all of your music, and also functions as an alarm clock and a docking station.
The beauty is that even from across the room you will be able to control your tunes, and skip through the songs you just aren’t in the mood for. If you like, you can even hook it up to additional speakers or audio players like a CD system or MP3 player to get the most out of your music while you are listening to it go. The display is a 1.3” scrolling display that shows all of the information, and you can scroll through from up to 30 feet away. You can control both the speed and brightness of your display, so that your scoreboard type display goes as fast or as slow as you like. The alarm clock feature allows for a 99 minute programmable sleep setting and you can wake to either your iPod or your alarm buzzer. All this for $99 bucks, which is a pretty sweet deal!

Ah yes, technology has many advantages, and one of those advantages is that we can use technology to preserve all of the things and memories that mean so much to us. We can take pictures of our precious moments, record our wedding song with technology, and even film movies that will capture our life’s most meaningful moments for forever. Ah yes, we can preserve our memories for a lifetime, but yes, technology changes. And so there comes a point when the technology that we use to preserve these precious moments becomes obsolete, and thus no longer usable. But wait, there is technology to remedy that as well. And today there are a slew of media file converters available where you can transform any kind of file into a digital format that is compatible with today’s technology.
One such device is teh Neuros OSD Media Recorder, where you can archive your old movies any way you want. The device will even create a backup in the event that your favourite DVD set gets lost or stolen, and so you can watch your movie anytime, anywhere. The Neuros OSD Media Recorder
will automatically encode video and audio for playback on portable and mobile devices such as laptops, iPods, iPhone, PSP and Smartphones. This device is so good, it will even transform the rather obscure Gallic SECAM format into easy-to-use MPEG4. And it goes even further, as it will even convert your digital photos into a mobile friendly file so you can port your photo albums on your phone. Yes, this gadget is one that is attractive for those that aren’t even gadget oriented, as all you have to do is plug it into your TV, connect the original video source (DVD player, VCR, camera, etc.) and hit play. In no time at all you will have an entire library of old memories and movies.

Ah yes, the world of digital photo frames
is as competitive as ever, particularly as we approach the last few shopping days before the holidays. So every company is working very hard to come out with versions that are better than their predecessors. So what does the Impact V have that its counterparts do not? Hint, it starts with a V and hence its name. The Impact V provides video support so that you can take any video that you have recorded and upload it wirelessly to its frame.
The Impact V is also Wi Fi enabled, and thus the video will automatically appear with DVD quality video and clear sound anywhere as long as you have a wireless connection. You can upload videos or photos and enjoy your media files however you like. The limitations you will have with this digital photo frame are maximum length for video playback is approximately four minutes, and the videos do take some time to upload, but when you consider the fact that you are working with a photo frame, that’s not that bad actually. Your frame comes with an 8 inch screen that includes 800×600 resolution and an on board flash memory of 512 M. And if you want more, and you may, it also includes MMC/SD/MS card slots to upload as many media files as you like. And of course, what good gadget comes without a remote control? The answer to that is, there is none, so the Impact V aims to please with that as well.
If you’d like to subscribe to RSS feeds or access other online video sites such as Flickr or Photobucket, you can do so with your Impact V. You can pick it up for the gadget lover on your list at the eStarling website for about $200 bucks.

It seems that there is always a new twist to the cell phone generation, with new technologies cropping up at lightning speed to enhance our cell phone experience. One thing that will never change with the cell phone however is the fact that they need juicing up on a regular basis, or no matter how technologically advanced they are, they are useless. But even this operation of powering up the cell phone seems to be advancing. We have seen solar powered charges in the past, or emergency AA battery powered chargers that give cell phones some juice when an emergency arises, but wouldn’t it be nice if there was an easier way? It sounds like there might be, as some researchers at the University of Houston are suggesting that with the use of piezoelectricity, a mechanical force that gets converted to electricity, one can power up their cell phones with the use of their own voice.

For almost two decades now, we have been watching The Simpsons poke fun at American culture. Last week they went to one of the most Americanized elements of technological culture by poking fun at the big wig Apple. Of course they were forced to protect themselves from copyright issues, so they were using the word ‘Mapple Store’ and ‘MyPods’ and there was even an appearance by Steve Mobs (you don’t need THAT joke explained, do you?) So yes, the jokes were not missed, and we allll know who they were laughing at. And because a picture really does say a thousand words, you can check out a clip of the episode here. What you won’t see here is the section of the episode where Lisa gets her first MyPod bill that ranks in over $1000. Most of the other jokes you will see in the clip will ring some Apple familiarity.
The last joke may be a little more elusive however, when you see Comic Book Guy running up to the giant screen of Steve Mobs and he hurls a sledgehammer. This is a clear reference to Apple’s ‘1984’ ad that you can check out here. The entire episode can be viewed at Hulu, and is not solely about MyPods, Mapple, or Steve Mobs, but the Mapple story is the secondary storyline. The actual plot of the episode centers around Bart making friends with a Muslim, and how Homer suspects the new chum’s friends may be terrorists. And while the subtle commentary on the 9/11 may seem dated, the Mapple satire is much more timely. Will it ever happen that satiring Apple will become dated? Who knows!

Ah yes, the merchandisers are out in full force for Star Trek fans this year. This is the ideal gift for the fan that enjoys dressing up as their favourite characters, but as you probably well know, profile your audience before you get too gussied up in the get up.
