We have been using cell phones for long enough that we have come to rely on them to perform a variety of functions for us so that they almost seem worth the expense if we can use them for many different things. Every month it seems a new phone is launched that offers one more feature that will make your life easier and more user friendly. But did you ever think that as much as your phone is capable of doing, it could do more? Like, maybe open your garage door even? No? Well the folks at Unity 4 Life have, and they’ve created gadgets that will do just that with two new devices: the AV Shadow and the Garage Shadow.
The AVShadow allows for switching channels, selecting chapters for a DVD, and even allows for adjusting the volume on the user’s audio receiver. It uses Bluetooth Technology, so the user doesn’t have to point at the screen or any other video device. The user can customize their own settings, and the interface is set up in a circular pattern, perfect for the BlackBerry Trackball. The AV Shadow is set up for TV, Satellite, Cable, Apple TV, TiVo, DVD, DVR/PVR, VCR, Blu-Ray, iPod, Mircosoft Media Center, even gaming consoles like the PS3. The AV Shadow is enough inspiration for any company, but Unify4Life also has another useful application called the Garage Shadow.

Just because the holidays are over doesn’t mean that your party mode may not strike you now and again. And when it does, you may be happy to have this little gadget sitting on your key ring. Unless of course you have already sailed past its too far gone point and your keys have been removed from your person, this keychain breathalyser may help you make some wise decisions the next time you are bending an arm with your pals. If you get nervous that maybe you’ve had too much to drink, now you can have a more accurate test to figure it out with this LED indicator breathalyser that will measure your blood alcohol concentration at any time, anywhere.
Keep this little keychain on your keys and you’ll never have to worry that somehow you miscounted how many beers or martinis you have had. Of course it also means if you ignore it and get pulled over, if the cop sees that, you’re going to be in even deeper trouble. He’ll know that you knew full well and went ahead anyway, which means there isn’t a prayer that you’ll get off easy. The cute part to this tool is its three different alerts you can access. In less than 5 seconds, you will see that green means “good to go” yellow is “stop drinking” and the red light is for “How in the world are you still standing?”.

With smartphones being the biggest and best thing in wireless devices, it was a rather bold move for Palm to introduce a new smart phone to take on the iPhone and the Blackberry. But Palm’s hail mary pass to introduce the new Palm Pre has yielded the coveted BEST OF CES: BEST IN SHOW award. It also won the Best Cellphone category. And it’s got everyone talking about it.
So much so that Palm’s stock has risen 38% since the announcement. Nice job for a company that was on the verge of closing its doors. As elegant as the iPhone but with the added feature of a slide down full keyboard, the Pre also comes with a brand new operating system and user interface. Other features include a 3 MP camera, USB 2.0, GPS, Wi-Fi & EV-DO, Bluetooth 2.1 with stereo support), 8GB of storage, and 3.5mm headphone jack, and high-speed USB 2.0.

In this ever evolving world of environmentally friendly needs, finding things to do with your old HP products may prove to be a bit cumbersome. Can you sell it on eBay when you make your upgrade? And if not, what do you do with all this clunky hardware floating around. Ask the folks at HP what they can do for you. They will be MORE than happy to tell you that those old products may just put some cash right back in your pocket where you like it. Not bad, huh? HP has expanded its Planet Partners Recycling program and added a buyback element to it. The new program dubbed the HP Consumer Buyback and Planet Partners Recycling Program, will buy back any brand of PC, monitor, printer, digital camera, or which still has some sort of value, rather than simply recycle the e-waste it receives. And it’s a lot. To date, HP has recycled close to one billion pounds of computer waste and hopes that the new buy back program will double that figure by 2010. Here’s how it works.

The beauty of the iPod is that you can take it with you wherever you go. Listen to it no matter where you are, or what you are doing. By sometimes you just need to set it somewhere while you are getting dinner ready, fussing around the workshop, or whatever. And so you may have your docking stations, but they do not offer the portability that you really want, which is why you have the iPod anyway, isn’t it? So along comes the iMu speaker.
The iMu vibrating speaker will transform any flat, hard surface into a top notch audio speaker. You’ll never look at your dining room table or hardwood floors in quite the same light again. It doesn’t stop there though. You can listen to your beats from things like tops of household appliances, cupboards and even your dashboard. How does it work? Well, the iMu itself is a small super-energy crystal device which deploys highly effective vibration-based technologies. Yes, it sounds a little confusing, but the more confusing it sounds perhaps, then the better quality product you are going to get, no? (more…)

It is so easy in this day and age for corporate rumblings to come up out of the woodworks. We are living in an economy where every business is fighting for its customers, and with this, competition is fierce amongst them. So when talk comes up about this or that company, when the company is big, Big Apple big, then people start to take those rumors seriously. And Apple is counting on it. What are the latest juices flowing out of the Apple mill. The first major rumor is an oversized, iPod Touch with 7” screen. Could this be Steve Jobs swan song? A netbook that’s more iPod and with a MacTablet flair tossed in? Now this could be truly exciting. Rumors have been around for nearly a decade about getting a Mac Tablet PC going, but with the latest netbook craze, and the iPod touch’s multi touch interface being patented for larger applications, an oversized iPod Touch netbook would surely set the mobile world on fire again.
Then there’s the Mac mini meets Time capsule rumor which fanboys s could breathe new life into the Mini after rumor’s of it’s imminent demise and rumors of a comeback. Other rumors floating around are that Apple big wig Steve Jobs is out of his namesake, a job. We are also hearing that not only Steve Jobs is on deathwatch, but also the iMovie is as well. Rumors, rumors, rumors. One thing is for sure, with all these rumors going around, will MacWorld be anything but boring?
