Chinavision Penthouse Cell Phone

According to the Chinavasion website, the Penthouse is the world’s smallest super cell phone. What exactly is a super cell phone you ask? Me thinks it’s a new marketing term to try and veer consumers off the “smartphone” track. But if that answer isn’t good enough than your guess is as good as mine. Clearly, super cell phones must be bigger than I thought. I’m assuming that the iPhone isn’t a super cell phone. But enough about that. So what is on this? How about a 1.5 inch touchscreen, full native quad band functionality, Dual SIM card slots, and it is fully unlocked for use of any network of choice. Other features include Bluetooth connectivity, and it includes a free Bluetooth earset for handsfree communication. It also comes with a “complete multimedia center” that includes a camera, image viewer, video recorder, video player, audio player, sound recorder, and FM radio. Other features include “PDA tools” like a calculator, calendar, and alarm. All in all, this looks like one of those devices that can do just about anything! All that, and it fits on your wrist. Of course, I’m not ChinaVision, but I really wouldn’t have called this the Penthouse watch. I mean, that’s like the second most-read pornographic magazine. That would be like calling a mobile phone a Playboy phone and not putting the bunny on it. But hey, what is in a name? Perhaps Penthouse simply is a description of the vastness of its top-floor features. Regardless of its name, you can get it here for about $113 at Chinavision.

samsung seek

Sprint has announced a brand new cellphone for the masses Stateside, where you will be able to pick yet another touchscreen device that also sports a full slide out QWERTY keyboard if you’re a messaging and email fiend – we’re talking about the the Samsung Seek, also known as the Samsung M350 if model numbers are your cup of tea. This 3G phone will come in a trio of color options alongside an easy-to-use, customizable menu system that provides instant access to their favorite features and applications. Basically, this is a phone that aims to bring the best of messaging features as well as multimedia favorites in a compact and stylish design, where you can choose from Cool Blue and Scarlet Red colors for a mere $29.99, with of course, the now customary new two-year service agreement and this also after a $50 mail-in rebate. For those who can wait until June 6th, you will then be able to pick it up in Fantasy Pink. Apart from being a pretty decent smartphone on paper with 3G connectivity, Samsung and Sprint also have a heart for the environment so those who love the earth will be able to take part in a new recycling solution whenever they pick up the Samsung Seek. How does this green initiative work? Well, customers can easily reuse the packaging to ship old wireless phones, batteries, accessories and data cards with a postage-paid paper mailing label.

Basically, this means you can use the label and box which comes with your phone inside to repackage your old equipment for recycling in under a minute without costing you a single penny more. Sprint will then go ahead to recycle both the equipment and the box. Folks who pick up the Scarlet Red Samsung Seek instead will find the traditional postage-paid envelope made of LDPE #4 recyclable plastic. Other elements used to package the Samsung Seek include paper-based solutions for the inner tray, bags for literature and the battery, and mailing envelope. There is at least 90% post-consumer waste (PCW) paper fiber which is 100% recyclable in the box and inner tray, where all of it hails from sustainable forests. Top sheets and liners are chlorine-free, printed with soy inks, and have a water-based aqueous coating. Go green while getting a new phone – we hope to see other companies take up similar initiatives as we only have one earth, borrowing it from our kids.

Kobo eReader Fans Will See it Arrive at Borders Store Soon.

Kobo eReader

eBook readers seem to be all the rage these days, but it has yet to catch on in a big way across all sections of the population simply because it is still too expensive for those living in developing countries, while there are many different formats out there for users to consider before making a purchase. Well, this has not stopped the iPad from doing gangbusters in terms of sales, with the Amazon Kindle also being another contender to worry about if one is going to enter the market (granted, the iPad is not an eBook reader per se, but it does carry the ability to read downloaded copies of your favorite tomes). Borders, the mega bookstore chain, will dip their toes in the market by taking pre-orders for the Kobo eReader while debuting its eBook store and apps powered by Kobo from next month onwards in order to keep up with the times. Guess they know that selling books alone with some accessories and media on the side isn’t going to cut the mustard any more, and hence has embarked on a strategy that will provide rich digital content and a wide variety of devices that feature emerging technologies. Another advantage that is has is being a device-neutral, rich-content provider, letting them sell the Kobo eReader alongside a range of other eReading devices in Borders stores in special digital shops called Area-e which will roll out this August. You will be able to place pre-orders for the Kobo eReader which currently showcases the Borders branded eBook store. Just to get an idea on how the Kobo eReader stacks up against its immediate rival, Wired Magazine has touted it as “the real Kindle killer” due to its attractive features and low price of just $149.99, making it one of the most affordable eReaders available. Guess decent hardware coupled with a great content delivery system (which hopefully is what Borders can offer) will make this a great device, eh? After all, each purchase will get you started right out of the box since the Kobo eReader will come preloaded with 100 classic books, arriving at your doorsteps from June 17th onwards, just in time for Father’s Day if you were wondering what to get dad on that day. The upcoming Borders eBook store will boast more than a million titles, making this a truly exciting time to be in as customers look set to be spoilt for choice. Which camp will you side?
