Belkin’s back with their spanking new Conserve Gateway router system which will work in tandem with your smart meter in order to deliver real-time insight about home energy use. How is this made possible? Well. you can check out what the Conserve Gateway reports through a simple and elegant web interface, which means you know what’s happening at home even though you’re thousands of miles away. Using their simple interface, it allows you to easily track and reduce energy use in your home, while picking up additional conservation tips that you can pass on to friends and family. Not only that, it enables utility companies with the ability to push information to Conserve Gateway with advice or calls to action, including “By using your dryer more efficiently, you can save up to $76 per year.” The protocol used here was informed by extensive ethnographic research which proved most people do not know what a kilowatt-hour (kWh) is and have even less of an idea about where power comes from. The whole idea of the Conserve Gateway router system would be to help you focus on the future, and in this case, energy conservation for the next generation. After all, this makes perfect sense since smart meter installations in homes have been growing over the years, and getting additional help to be able to pinpoint just which are the power guzzlers in your home helps as well. Among the features found on the Conserve Gateway include the ability to provision and manage a home area network (HAN) to enable the monitoring and control of in-home devices, appliances, and energy loads; a Smart Energy Profile (SEP 1.0) certified ZigBee network interface for communicating with smart meters deployed with utility advanced metering infrastructure (AMI). You will also love the Wi-Fi/Ethernet network interface that allows for communicating with cloud-based device management system through user’s home broadband router and provides an alternate channel for utilities to communicate with the gateway.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab looks set to make a splash in the world of tablets that has so far been dominated by the Apple iPad, although there is a fair number of other brands around, but those did not really make the cultural as well as numerical impact that the iPad did. In fact, recent statistics has shown that the iPad actually cannibalized up to 50% of notebook sales for certain retailers in the US, which is a whole lot when you think about it. Whoever said that the tablet market was a niche one, and it was separate from the notebook/netbook demographic? Well, the Galaxy Tab on paper does look like a champion, and it is set to arrive Stateside via Verizon Wireless in the coming weeks. Make no mistake about it, the Samsung Galaxy Tab will come with a brilliant 7-inch touch screen display, running on a 1.2GHz Cortex A8 Hummingbird Application processor to deliver users with a robust HTML Web browsing experience regardless of where they are (subject to battery life and Internet connectivity, of course). Not only that, since it will arrive via Verizon Wireless, it will also be accompanied by other exclusive applications such as V CAST Music with Rhapsody, V CAST Video on Demand, V CAST Song ID, VZ Navigator – stuff that normally come with smartphones. Verizon knows that all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, which is why they have also thrown in games such as “Let’s Golf” and “N.O.V.A.”. The Samsung Galaxy Tab
aims to make strong sales figures this holiday season, being marketed as the perfect traveling companion where one is able to download a book to the Kindle eReader, or tune in to Slacker Radio for a different kind of listening experience with more than 100 radio stations to choose from, or even view a movie thanks to its generous display which works much better than a regular smartphone display. The mobile multimedia experience is further enhanced thanks to full support for Adobe Flash 10.1. Apart from that, you get a 3-megapixel rear camera and a 1.3-megapixel front facing camera, where the latter is used for video chat purposes. 2GB of internal memory can be expanded via a microSD memory card slot, while Wi-Fi connectivity helps you stay connected to the Internet whenever there is no 3G signal. No word on pricing, but we hope the future weeks will shed more light on this.
