PiLfIuS: Free Speech Recognition for Gamers

PiLfIus is FREE speech recognition and command application specifically written for gamers. It automatically turns the commands you speak into your microphone or headset into keystrokes.

You can use Pilfius to easily perform in game operations like change weapon, reload, plant bomb, etc to make your games more interesting. As an example, to order one of your fireteams to open fire in Operation Flashpoint ™, you would have to take your hands off the controls and hit the keys 9-2-3-1 in order. With PiLfIuS!, all you have to do is to say something like “Blue, open fire”.

DirectX 10 for Windows XP

dxThe Alky Project from Falling Leaf Systems recently released in Alpha form preview release of DirectX 10 compatible libraries for Windows XP. The project want to save gamers from upgrading to Windows Vista, allowing them to play the latest games on any Windows operating system.

The project plans to build a converter that can take in a DX10 game executable and will produce a modified version that can be run on a (non-Vista) target OS. The libraries will also increase hardware compatibility even on Vista, by compiling Geometry Shaders down to native machine code for execution where hardware isn’t capable of running it.

DirectX 10 Compatibility Libraries are currently in Pre-Alpha stage, You can download the preview from here and can test it out with the DX10 SDK which include samples that users can test out with their DX10 compatible gfx cards.

Coca-Cola Comes to Second Life

The Coca-Cola Company launched the “Virtual Thirst” campaign in Second Life asking the people to design a virtual Coca Cola vending machine.

Virtual Thirst is an open competition being held by Coca-Cola to design an imaginary machine that delivers a Coca-Cola experience in Second Life.

The best idea will be turned into virtual reality by experienced virtual-world services outfit, Millions of Us. The winner will also win a trip for 2 to San Francisco, California USA, to participate in the creation of a video documenting the creation of the winning design as a Second Life object.

Playstation Home Announced

Few days back i posted about rumours of Sony Playsation Home feature, A virtual social network inside PS3.

Sony has finally announced the feature and launched Home beta trial website.

Here is a little excerpt from the Home beta trial website.

Home™ is a real-time 3D, networked community that serves as a meeting place for PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) users from around the world, where they can interact, communicate, join online games, shop, share content and even build their own personal spaces. Home™ will be available as a free download from the PLAYSTATION®Store and will launch directly from the PS3™ system’s Home Menu.

Opposite to the rumours, Playstation Home is not a a small apartment or virtual Room, It is a full-fledged virtual world where you can chat, play arcade games, launch multiplayer games, or just hang out.

There will be public areas, like virtual movie theaters and clothing stores and game company sponsored areas where you can play demos of their latest games.

Rumour: Sony to Introduce Playstation Home

Rumours around the internet, that Sony is planning a service named PlayStation Home for PS3. A virtual social network inside your PS3.

With this new feature, you will get to make a 3D virtual avatar for your console and this avatar will have a virtual home.

You will be able to invite your friends on your friends list. They can come to your home, see achievements, listen to music that you have stored on your PS3 and can watch videos stored on your PS3 too.

As you play games and accomplish tasks, you will receive game-related items to decorate your room with.

The details about the feature can come out at the Game Developers Conference next week where the PS3 Home feature can be announced.

Google Buys Adscape for $23 Million

ingameadfantaGoogle has acquired Adscape, a small startup that delivers dynamic ads for video games, the deal was done for $23 million.

Adscape is a San Francisco-based startup company officially launched in February 2006 with $3.2 million in funding from Atlanta’s HIG Ventures.

For Google, the real challenge will be to find partners willing to bring Adscape to their online games because adscape never announced any game publishers as customers.
