Microsoft announced on Thursday that it’s partnering with Novell Inc. its longtime rival in the market for computer operating system software, to support Novell’s version of Linux.
The two agreed to develop technology for computer systems that use both Linux and Microsoft’s Windows. Microsoft and Novell also agreed not to sue any customer who uses both operating systems, removing the legal uncertainty over mixing Linux and Windows.
Microsoft has spent ten years bashing the free-of-charge open-source Linux operating system and trying to kill it. Now Microsoft is making nice.
Linux creator Linus Torvalds, says he’d love to see Microsoft and Novell produce a hybrid operating system. His dream system would combine the Linux kernel (the core of the operating system) with tools, libraries and other operating-system components from Microsoft.

The Beta Release of Ubuntu 6.10 - codenamed “Edgy Eft” has been announced but Ubuntu sponsors Canonical Ltd. has announced that ShipIt will not take orders for Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy Eft. Currently they are taking orders for Ubuntu 6.06 Dapper Drake which is a stable version.
Just go to the ShipIt site and send your request online. The Dapper Drake CDs will be mailed to you. The Edgy Eft Beta can be downloaded from here.

Damn Small Linux (DSL) is a linux distribution which is only 50MB in size.
Damn Small is small enough and smart enough to do the following things:
- Boot from a business card CD as a live linux distribution (LiveCD)
- Boot from a USB pen drive
- Boot from within a host operating system (that’s right, it can run *inside* Windows)
- Run very nicely from an IDE Compact Flash drive via a method we call “frugal install”
- Transform into a Debian OS with a traditional hard drive install
- Run light enough to power a 486DX with 16MB of Ram
- Run fully in RAM with as little as 128MB (you will be amazed at how fast your computer can be!)
- Modularly grow — DSL is highly extendable without the need to customize
