With Smart Phones being all the rage right now, wireless corporations are needing to step up the game and compete with the big wigs. So for those people that haven’t caught onto the iPhone or Blackberry bandwagon, Nokia has come up with a solution for the types that just can’t give up the Nokia handset yet. The new Nokia smartphone is known as the Nokia E71 and is definitely meeting the bar when it comes to competing with other smart phones. Though the Nokia E71 is not quite as stylish as the iPhone, and its display is not as large as some of its competitive counterparts, it still has quite a bit to offer in terms of serving as a smart phone. The sleek chromed looks of the E71 may be stylish enough for today’s business professional and it offers an extremely convenient mobile email solution with portable productivity software that will enable you to take your office with you wherever you go. You can also use social networking with the E71, use Wi Fi connectivity, and use Mail for Exchange support for all of your email needs. Separate your corporate from your personal emails and switch between the two with the use of a single key. And as an added bonus, new owners will receive complimentary access to a whole gig of online file storage. Can’t beat that! Ask your wireless provider for more details….

Gift cards have got to be the sweetest answer to holiday shopping questions the world over. And you have to know that it must have been a man that invented them. Oh yes, it will save them that dreaded night before Christmas shopping where they have to beat out all the other last minute male shoppers to that dreaded perfect gift. But gift cards have changed that somewhat as now these same men need only stand in line at the convenience store and swoop up an armful of their choice selection of gift cards, and tell everyone else that they finished their shopping in less than an hour. Well, yes, gift cards do have their fine place in today’s gift giving, and with the economy the way it is, companies are having to get a little more creative with their gift card choices if they want to stand out amongst the sea of choices these last minute men shoppers. And Target is one of the first to jump on this bandwagon by turning their gift cards into a camera, so you give your giftee two gifts in one. Target dollars, and a new camera to boot. And yes, you can actually TAKE pictures with this gift card, as it comes with a 1.2 megapixel chip and 8 MB of memory. This means you won’t be able to take more than about 50 pictures, but now you won’t have to fumble through the house looking for one on Christmas morning if you’ve been given this handy dandy gift. Your ‘gift card’ will also come with a USB cord, driver disk, and manual, as well as a voucher for 40 free prints from Target photo center. And so Target is definitely rising above with a gift that keeps on giving. Yep. Free prints, new camera, and a gift card that is reloadable and reusable, and thus, such is the camera.

Yes, we live in a world where technology is changing with the speed of light, and it seems every day that we have a new tool or toy that promises to make our lives easier. While all of this is going on, we are also seeing gadgets and toys emerge that help us to get rid of obsolete technology, and make more effective use of the ‘old fashioned’ items we still have lying around. Things such as LP converters for example are great ways to maximize obsolete technology so that you can continue using them. This time around though, it is the USB Negative Scanner that will help you use all of those old 35 mm film you have lying around. If you want to digitize old photos or negatives, the USB scanner will let you do just that. This gadget takes all of your old negatives and old slides and allows you to digitalize them. All you need to do is plug the gadget into a USB port on your computer, and slide the negatives or slides into its featured slot. In a matter of minutes, all of your old film will be converted into 5 megapixel masterpieces. This will make a great gift for someone that you know that HAS every gadget known to man. The beauty of this toy is that you can also see what is on your negatives without holding them up to the light and squinting and guessing. All of the guesswork is taken away, and guess what, when you are done, you get to throw out more obsolete junk. It’s a win-win for everybody.

We have so much technology on the market these days, you can literally find a gadget for just about anything if you want to. And if you are the type that like to hang out outdoors, then this gadget may come in handy. It is the Intelligent Digital Compass, and is sort of the go-between for those of you that don’t have GPS enabled phones or in-car devices. It also will work well for those that aren’t quite hip to the latest techie gadgets but will settle for a digital version of their favourite get-around tool. The Intelligent Digital Compass is one step above the average digital compass in that it offers some intelligence as it promises by marking up to 3 different spots in its memory so that you can return to it at a later time. It also features a large LCD display that will show you the direction you need to head, any remaining distance on your tip, battery signal, and GPS signal status. You will also enjoy the backlight on this gadget if you are the sort that needs compass direction after the sun goes down. And, when the gadget becomes obsolete, as it will, you can always bury it in a time capsule to check out the stored locations a few decades down the road. It’s not out yet, but should hit retail in January, or maybe even right before Christmas.

There are many that say that the entire world will be digital sooner than we imagine, and many that just can’t get over old fashioned pen and paper ways of life. But even those die hard difficult to change are slowly finding their ways into the digital lifestyle. Seems more facets of our life are digital these days, and did you ever think that something as simple as a Post It Note even would turn techno? No? Well, it hasn’t yet, but it is well on the say. The E Note, a digital Post It Note will change the way you use Post Its. It will prove that while paper is meant to be thrown away, technology is built to last. The designers at Sequoia Studios have created the E Note as a concept to combine Post Its and digital technology. The E Notes are taking advantage of electric paper to create Post It Notes that are tiny pieces of electrical paper that are powered by small solar captor units and these E Notes only require one minute of light every day in order to work effectively. They will come in packs of 25 and you can calibrate the date and time on any or all of them by writing on the first one with an electronic stylus. The beauty of these is that you can write or draw whatever you like, and then clear the message after you have crossed that note off your To Do list. So, reuse your E Note over and over. What does this technology do? Reduce paper waste, and reuse digital technology for paper notes. Ah yes, so even those folks that aren’t quite over the fence for making their worlds digital may buy into this uber environmentally friendly concept.

More often than not, today’s gadget world involves the innovation and launch of gadgets and devices that are designed to make us more productive, more efficient, make more money, or make life easier. Outside of gaming, fun gadgets aren’t really a high priority in today’s failing economy and marketplace. So when something like this comes along, it’s okay to put all the seriousness aside and just enjoy life for a few minutes. The Hammacher and Schlemmer Snowball Launcher will do just that by bringing out your inner child and enjoy some fun outdoors. And…if you have that one neighbour who just won’t get off your back about *whatever* the snowball launcher has its practical advantages as well. With this cool snow gun, you can now aim and shoot your snowballs with unbelievable precision. So, if your throwing arm isn’t up to snuff, or that annoying neighbour is just THAT far away, the launcher will come in handy. The launcher is ideal if you enjoy long range snow balls, and so you can aim at your friends from far away, and still have time to secure cover if you expect retaliation. Yep, the launcher has a 50 foot range and shoots at unbelievable speeds. Word to the wise however, prepare your snowballs in advance if you really want an avalanche or you will lose precious time building and reloading. For $30 bucks, this is one toy that will be well worth the cost after you see it in action the first time.

You may have thought that the world was already full of every option there was to be had when it comes to shaving, but this is not necessarily the case now. With the Rolling Razor, you move from the standard razor variety of knife on a stick to a new razor that will sputter in others’ directions. The beauty of the Rolling Razor is that it is literally two knives on a ring. The feature of the ring will change the way you shave as the ring itself is engineered in an innovative way to give you more maneuverability and control as you shave. The razor is featured with a double headed, triple convex cartridges that will stay in close contact with your skin whether you are shaving a flat surface or a curved surface. So, for all of those tricky to reach areas that your standard knife on a stick leaves you looking like you scrubbed with sandpaper, the Rolling Razor is designed to beat ALL of that. So when you hear double headed and triple convex cartridges, you are getting exactly what it sounds like. Six blades on one razor leaving you with the smoothest shave ever. And this one is geared for both men AND women with a color range that is even bigger than the iPod Nano color line. You will love how the razors are graded on a gentle versus close scale. So, if you are inclined to get ingrown hairs, you can choose the Bump Eliminator for a smoother shave. All in all, you will NOT find a razor that offers you as much versatility as this one does. And for $14.95, with a Free Designer Holding Base, you can’t beat the price either.

When it comes to the peripheral world, Mac users often get the short end of the stick, particularly in terms of data storage peripherals as the Fire Wire port needed is not often available. Western Digital has come up with a solution for the Mac user by adding a high speed Fire Wire 800 interface to its entire range of My Passport Studio portable drives. This will work well for the creative professional who needs fast performance in a peripheral storage device. It offers a new interface that works well with the Apple MacBook Pro and you will love the integrated illuminate capacity gauge that will inform you of how much space you have left. As long as it is plugged into your machine, this baby is full powered. And, if you don’t happen to have the Fire Wire port on your machine, the versatility is there to meet your needs with a USB 2.0. The speed of this gadget is its biggest selling feature, and is catered to the creative professional. From the Senior Vice President and General Manager of the WD Brand Products and Consumer Electronics Group:

“Photographers and videographers, be they creative pros or Mac computer enthusiasts, have a genuine need for large amounts of fast, portable storage for their high-definition files. With a new FireWire 800 interface, My Passport Studio speeds up editing and transferring of big media files making it perfect for performance-minded Mac computer users on the go.”

Depending on what size you get, they run for about $229 or $249, and their color selection will tickle your fashionable fancy as well.

Ever had one of those moments where you passed someone on the street, or were checking them out at the mall and thought, wow, would love to talk to them. And with the Internet so handy, it has eased some social discomfort by allowing for more open channels of communication for those that are of the shyer variety. Well, now the W-41 will ensure that the offline public merges with the online public in a very unique manner. The W-41 technology is being used on items of clothing so that you will be able to instantly access someone’s Facebook profile, MySpace page, personal blog, or whatever else the person has registered on their ‘clothing’. The W-41 works two ways, first through technology installed on clothing, and second through a download on your phone. So you see someone you like, that also happens to be wearing a W-41 piece, zap them with your phone download, and instantly you can watch your friends and buddy lists grow. All you have to do is take a picture of their W-41 emblem, and all of the information will be downloaded onto your phone. Has it started to sound too creepy yet? This is a fairly new concept that is limited to this brand and this company, but you have to know, the bandwagon is going to grow and grow fast with this one. Particularly amongst the college crowd, the biggest demographic on MySpace and Facebook, and so no longer will you only have to admire that cutie from afar. Just snap a pic of their W-41, and maybe you’ll get plans for next Saturday night. Yes, it’s creepy, and somewhat invasive, but when you are the shirt wearer, you get to decide who has access to what. So the privacy protocol has already been granted when you allow the general public to access you online, when you are offline. It’s definitely an innovative notion, though it may have its downsides. But there was once a day when Facebook was just a concept, and even seen as a little invasive as well, and now well, it’s a household term and every day lingo, so much so that the term ‘Facebook me about it’ has turned an originally invasive concept into every day actions. The W-41, expect to see it in heavy doses, very soon.
